Ninh Binh Club announces the departure of coach Gerard Albadalejo and assistant coach Josep Maria Roma.
Ninh Binh Club has just posted official information regarding the separation from coach Gerard Albadalejo and assistant coach Josep Maria Roma after round 14 of the V-League. The Ancient Capital's team just lost to Nam Dinh in the derby and this is also their third consecutive defeat since 2026, causing the team to fall 7 points behind in the championship race.
The official fanpage of Ninh Binh Club wrote: "During the first half of the 2025/26 season, Coach Gerard Albadalejo and Assistant Coach Josep Maria Roma made many valuable contributions, helping Ninh Binh FC achieve several notable milestones.
Ninh Binh FC would like to express its deepest and most sincere gratitude to the Head Coach and Assistant Coach, who not only imparted tactics and professional skills to the players but also promoted the spirit of unity – the core values that constitute the team's strength. We wish Coach Gerard Albadalejo and Assistant Coach Josep Maria Roma good health and continued success on their future journey."
Although he once helped Ninh Binh hold an impressive unbeaten streak of 36 consecutive matches and nearly dominated the V-League in the early stage, losing all three opening matches in 2026 led to the Spanish strategist losing his position. Ninh Binh FC is now 7 points behind the top team, CAHN, and has also played one more match.
Despite possessing a quality squad from domestic to foreign players, supplemented by a series of other stars like Truong Tien Anh, Hoang Thai Binh, and Thanh Hoa's U23 Vietnam stars such as Thai Son and Van Thuan, Ninh Binh still had a very poor start to 2026. Given the ambitions of a club with strong potential like Ninh Binh, Coach Gerard Albadalejo's departure was something predicted beforehand.
The Ancient Capital's team is expected to officially introduce the new head coach on March 3rd. The appointee to lead Ninh Binh Club will have a four-day period to familiarize and prepare for the upcoming challenge. The debut match for the new captain will be a clash with the bottom-placed team, Da Nang, taking place at 6:00 PM on March 7th at Ninh Binh's home stadium.
